Don't be afraid to stray

Just because you have a job in a certain field or industry doesn’t mean you can’t diverge from that career path. Make a list of your strengths, both personally and professionally, and then widen your search. You may be surprised how many different roles you are qualified for.

Reflect on the past

Think about all the tasks you’ve done in your career. What did you enjoy? What did you dread?  Identify any themes or key skills that come out and focus on finding these in your job search.

Consider your terms

Be realistic and think about the terms you need from a job including the type of work, flexibility, hours and location. And don’t forget about your salary expectations. Do some research and find out what you are worth before getting too deep in the job search process.

Focus on what matters

Think about what matters to you most, for example it could be autonomy, professional development or a sense of purpose. These values will evolve over time but the link between values and happiness will not.

Don’t hold yourself back

Seize the day! There’s no time like the present to make a positive life change and spice up your job. Think about what you’d do if you couldn’t fail. Follow your curiosity and uncover your less obvious interests.
