Podcasts to fall asleep to
April 29, 2019
Sleep. We all need it, but are we getting enough?
Sleep is a vital part of survival, just like food and water. However with so many distractions in our lives, many find it hard to slow down to a good night’s rest.
We all have those nights, when we just can’t seem to fall asleep no matter what. There's now a better method to catching some shut-eye than counting sheep. Those struggling to get a good night’s sleep are now turning to “slow lit” podcasts. Slow lit are podcasts designed to put you to sleep. They’re essentially very boring bedtime stories delivered in a monotone way.
Here are the top slow lit podcasts that’ll either bore or relax you, and end your restless nights.
1. Sleep with me
Not as racy as it sounds. Quite the contrary, this renowned slow lit podcast by Drew Ackerman, is billed as “lulling, droning, boring bedtime stories to distract your racing mind” before bed. Releasing a handful of one- to two-hour podcasts each week, Ackerman speaks in a boring monotone voice while constantly going off on tangents, ideal for putting the listener to sleep.
2. Game Of Drones
Ackerman has also created a sleep podcast on Game of Thrones, suitably called Game of Drones. The podcast recaps and analyses every episode for about an hour and a half, but you'll be knocked out cold way before he's done.
3. Miette’s Bedtime Story
Miette's Bedtime Story podcast proves nobody is too old to be lulled off to sleep by a bedtime story. This podcast delights listeners with classic short fiction delivered in the soothing voice of a professional book narrator, Miette. Her subtle soothing narration is so tranquil it's sure to calm your racing mind.
4. Headspace
This popular meditation app Headspace now offers its own version of slow lit with “Sleepcasts”, which the company describes as “unique audio experiences” meant to transport the listener to an ideal setting for sleep.
5. Sleep Whispers
The team over at Sleep Whispers Podcast describe the show as "whispered ramblings & readings to help you sleep". And it really does. You know when you try to get a baby to sleep and you whisper to them? Turns out whispering can help adults sleep too. Ranging from whispering stories to recipes to any old nonsense, this podcast really hits the mark.
6. Classical music
Last but not least, classical music. If the new age meditation stuff isn’t your style, you can always go back to old school to relax. In fact, it has been scientifically proven that if you listen to classical music 45 minutes before bed, it helps ease you into a night full of Zzzs.
