Here are our tips for making the most of every minute of 2019. Who knows; maybe you'll gain the time to finally take that next step with your super.

Automate where you can

Make the most of technology. Grocery shopping? The days of spending hours walking aisles are gone - Woolworths and Coles both have apps for that. You can even create lists of your favourite products so you can express re-order next time. Hate house cleaning? Try apps like Helping and find a vetted cleaner on the go. Prioritise the time you have to do things that are important to you.

Batch cooking

Simplify your after-work routine by pre-preparing mid-week meals where you can. You’ll save time on cooking and washing up pots and pans each night. Plus buying your ingredients in larger amounts can lead to savings.

Don’t get distracted

Avoid being available all the time. Don’t be afraid to leave the notifications on your phone alone – or heaven forbid – turn the phone off. There are even programs like SelfControl that can blacklist websites for you during a set period of time so you don’t get tempted to stray from the task at hand.

Decline invitations you don’t actually want

Spend your time doing things you actually enjoy rather than feel obliged to do. There’s no harm in declining invitations as long as you won’t be offended if you don’t get asked again (and sometimes, that’s best case scenario!).

Utilise a to-do list

Compiling a to-do list allows you to approach tasks in the most logical way, potentially saving time. For example, you want to wipe down benches before you sweep the floors, buy all the ingredients for dinner in one trip or drop off the dry cleaning while you’re already out picking up the kids.  A good to-do list will facilitate multi-tasking at its finest.

Follow the “two minute rule”

If something takes little time, do it now and be done with it. These tasks take less time to just do than for you to remember, think about and then go back to. Good examples are washing up your coffee cup, putting shoes or clothes away or even booking an appointment. Been meaning to find your lost super accounts?
