Inspiring women and your super

As we celebrated women all around the world earlier this month, we’re sharing stories of women who are excelling in their chosen field. Better yet, if you’re invested in our Balanced, Lifestyle Balanced, Growth or Lifestyle Growth investment options, then your super is invested in all three of these companies.

women listening and engaging

These women are super smart, super entrepreneurial and their companies really could be helping your super savings to grow.

Flavia Tata Nardini - Co-founder of Fleet

When Flavia Tata Nardini moved from Italy to Adelaide in 2012 she was a rocket scientist in need of a job. Australia didn’t have a space agency, so like many entrepreneurs before her, she made one for herself. Fleet Space Technologies launched in 2015 and is now connecting the Internet of Things (which are the 75 billion physical devices across the world) through a fleet of small satellites.

The company is literally out of this world. It currently has six satellites in orbit, but is set to have a network of 140 small satellites in Low Earth Orbit. While Fleet are backing themselves to enable the next giant leap in human civilisation, we’re happy to go along for one super ride.

Melanie Perkins – Co-founder of Canva

If you want to be inspired, look no further than Melanie Perkins at Canva. Started in 2013, Canva is an online design and publishing tool made specially for people who are not graphic designers and who can’t afford one. Melanie and her co-founder Cliff Obrecht decided to launch as a free platform with easy-to-use templates that used word of mouth to advertise. These decisions saw the company grow exponentially and this Sydney start up is now worth over $40 billion making it the most valuable private software company ever.

To continue the inspiration, Perkins and Obrecht have announced they will now commit the majority of their equity in Canva to philanthropic causes. Their first program will be distributing $10 million to those in need in Southern Africa.
